the sony and denon are both progressive scan dvd players. the sony is also a 2 ch sacd player as well, problem with that is 2ch sacd is already an out dated format, it has gone multichannel like dvd audio. the denon does have a better deinterlacer (line doubler) in it than the sony. the deinterlacer in the denon is from dvdo. this line doubler by itself costs 799.95, the same price as the denon 2800 dvd which has it built in. overall if i were to choose between the two. i would probably choose the denon, its a better value, decodes mp3's, plays all crd/cdrw's( sony plays some cdrs and not others for no apparent reason) and the picture will look slightly better. the advantage of the sony is it plays 2ch sacd's(already defunct) has a better warranty(5 year versus 1 for the denon.)heavier duty build quality (weighs alot more). i sell both of these players and lately the dvd2800 has stommped the sony which has never been a big seller
